Farm gates with wrought iron
Eleanor Gate
The ‘Eleanor’ was the first of our wrought iron driveway farm gates. The matching personal access gate has become one of the most popular garden gate designs. We craft the Eleanor gate using flat steel bars, giving it the classic look of heritage farm gates from the mid to late 1800s.
Daylesford Gate
The ‘Daylesford’ is the newest addition to our range of wrought iron farm gates. We designed it after the entrance gate to ‘Wombat Park,’ a heritage-listed property in Daylesford, Victoria.
Estate Gate
The ‘Estate’ gate is based on old style English estate gates popular in the UK.
Order these steel gates either unpainted, allowing them to develop a natural aged patina, or with a powder-coated finish for lasting protection. Their wrought iron details complement and add timeless charm to Federation and Victorian-era homes and cottages
Construction:
- The Estate, Daylesford and Eleanor gates are designed to look like old blacksmithed heritage gates, but without the expense of making them traditionally.
- The Kingham gate is a modern take on the latter, with the vertical bars making it harder for toddlers and small dogs to escape.
- The Estate and Eleanor gates are made with strong RHS (rectangular hollow section) frames and flat bar rails with the addition of wrought iron.
- The Daylesford are made with a heavier pipe gate frame and wrought iron topper from solid round bar.
Finish:
Powder coated or unpainted. These gates will rust if left exposed.
Height:
1200mm tall to the top rail.
Sizes:
The Eleanor, Estate and Kingham gates are made from 915mm (3′) to 4.8m, whereas the Daylesford is made in sizes 2.4m to 4.8m.
Suitable for:
Thanks to their heavier materials and sturdy design, these gates withstand large animals with ease, offering lasting strength and durability.
Price Guide:
- The Eleanor gate is priced from $1100-$2700;
- the Kingham gate is priced $1600-$3200;
- The Daylesford gate ranges from $3000 – $4100;
- the Estate gate is $1100- $2700

Cast Jointed Gates – a heritage tradition
Cast jointed farm gates were popular in the early 20th century. Many foundries, now long gone, produced and sold these gates across Australia. The Simpson Foundry in Adelaide and the Sunshine McKay factory in Victoria were two of the most well-known manufacturers.
Sunshine McKay gates are easy to identify by their name on the centre casting. These gates are highly sought after by heritage gate lovers. However, due to their heavy weight, they are sometimes called “drag & drop gates” because they often ended up resting on the ground. Cyclone factories, which had locations in most states, also made cast jointed farm gates and supplied them across Australia.
Cast jointed gates weigh nearly twice as much as other gates. Each casting weighs around 2kg. To ensure a strong and lasting bond, a special welding technique is used to join mild steel with cast iron.
We manufacture faithful replicas of both Simpson and Sunshine gates. The Simpson gate features an ornamental circular centre disc with a floral pattern, while its joint knuckles have decorative patterns. The Sunshine gate, on the other hand, has a bow-shaped centrepiece with smooth castings. Both designs preserve the historical beauty of classic Australian farm gates.
Construction: Heavy walled pipe, flat steel bracing and cast iron. They are hard to tell apart from the authentic gates. These gates are traditionally made to be hung from timber posts and come with bolt through hinges.
Finish: Powder coated only.
Height: 1150mm tall to the top rail.
Sizes: 1.2m to 3.5m (for 3.6m gap). These gates cannot be made any longer due to their weight.
Suitable for: Ornamental, they are not suitable around stock. Posts should be well braced to support their weight.
Price Guide: Starting from $2450 – $3300 (price subject to change without notice)
